MUSIC INTERVIEW: GRACE WOODROOFE

Speed Date: From Innocence to Experience & the Thrilling Dangers of Playing Live

In a world that seems to spin faster by the day, where social networking allows us to make friends with one another at a click of the mouse, we may be able to see what people have tagged or who they’ve ‘poked,’ but it can sometimes be difficult to really get to know someone and what they’re about. Feeling friendly, cutting to the chase, and learning something about current musical artists who represent the best of what they do, Buzzine has set a table and would like to introduce you to your Speed Date:

What is your name and where are you from?

Grace Woodroofe - Perth, Australia.

Where are you right now?

My bedroom - Perth, Australia.

Grace Woodroofe Interview on Buzzine.comCan we have a pic to see what you’re up to?

Photo Booth is better!

If our moms were setting us up on a blind date, what 3 things would your mom tell my mom about you?

1. "Grace will probably disappear for long periods of time; don't be worried."

2. " Hope your son likes mood swings."

3. "Stock up on avocado."

Why are you answering these questions (what are you promoting)?

My album, Always Want, was released January 24th in the USA!

What 3 words best describe your musical style?

Emotive, passionate, honest.

What sentence best sums up your latest album?

My recollection of the transition from innocence to experience.

What are you most proud of in your professional life?

I never give up.

What other music (apart from your own) are you listening to right now?

Javelin, Das Racist, Wings, Diana Ross, Toro Y Moi, Chelsea Wolfe...

Who is your musical hero?

Jack White.

Grace Woodroofe Always Want Cover on Buzzine.comWhen are you the happiest: recording in the studio or playing live on stage? Why?

I think playing on stage because there is more raw energy and danger involved. Everything is different and uncontrollable when you play live -- there are so many unknowns, and the experience is largely dependable on the audience's energy. When it's good, there's no greater high.

What has been your greatest ‘rock star’ moment so far?

People screaming my name and waiting for my autograph outside of venues! YAY!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Honestly, no idea. Hopefully all limbs intact.

What is your motto?

"People love details."

Anything more to add?

Wherever you are, STOP wherever you FIND yourself.

Grace Woodroofe's startling, slightly surreal album is intimate, easy, challenging, and quite rare. It is called 'Always Want' and it is out now on Modular People.
