In a world that seems to spin faster by the day, where social networking allows us to make friends with one another at the click of the mouse, we may be able to see what people have tagged or who they’ve ‘poked,’ but it can sometimes be difficult to really get to know someone and what they’re about. Feeling friendly, cutting to the chase, and introducing a current artist who represents the best of what they do, Buzzine has set the table for today's musical Speed Date:
What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Afie and I’m from Toronto, by way of Helsinki.
Where are you right now?
Toronto, by way of Helsinki.
Hey, do you have a cam on your phone? Can we have a pic to see what you’re up to?
Sure:
If our moms were setting us up on a blind date, what three things would your mom tell my mom about you?
My mom would probably talk about her garden and her cat, and then would try and feed your mom Ouzo and some sort of grilled meats. Your mom will forget why she’s there in the first place.
Why are you answering these questions (what are you promoting)?
My album, Pink Strat, just came out, and we’re going on tour. Answering questions via email is just one of the things that the modern musician has to do, I suppose. I can’t picture Jimi Hendrix checking his email…
What three words best describe your musical style?
Living the Dream.
What sentence best sums up your latest album?
See above.
What are you most proud of in your professional life?
My ongoing friendship with Robbie Lackritz.
What other music (apart from your own) are you listening to right now?
Al Tuck, Jennifer Castle, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill.
Who is your musical hero?
Doug Paisley.
When are you the happiest: recording in the studio or playing live on stage? Why?.jpg)
Live is much more important to me. The music business has turned around, and making records has more or less become a vehicle for going on tour. It used to be the other way around. Blame the Internet, I guess...
What has been your greatest ‘rock star’ moment so far?
Paying my mother’s taxes. More “responsible” than “rock star.”
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Toronto, by way of Helsinki.
What is your motto?
Deeds not words.
Anything more to add?
What time should I tell my mom to expect your mom?
Where can online can fans find out more about you?
Bahamas are currently on tour performing songs from 'Pink Strat' and showing how to have serious fun. If you get the chance, you should go along and listen. Move accordingly in time with the music. Then talk about your favorite 'bits' to friends.
